En las aprehensiones se incluyen menores que no van acompañados de adultos

Un total de 53 mil 77 unidades familiares, integradas por menores y uno o más adultos, fueron aprehendidas al ingresar de manera ilegal por la frontera sur de Estados Unidos en marzo pasado, lo que representó un máximo histórico, de acuerdo con la Patrulla Fronteriza.

Esa cifra, que supera en 45 por ciento a las detenciones de febrero pasado, eleva a 189 mil 584 unidades familiares aprehendidas en los seis primeros meses del año fiscal 2019, que inició el 1 de octubre anterior, y es mayor a las 182 mil 834 de los 24 meses anteriores.

En su página de internet, la Patrulla Fronteriza informó además que el total de aprehensiones, en las que se incluyen también a los menores no acompañados y a los adultos solos, se elevó en marzo a 92 mil 607, una cifra que no se registraba desde 2007.

Al presentar el reporte de detenciones de migrantes en febrero pasado, el ahora director interino del Departamento de Seguridad Interna (DHS), Kevin McAleenan, indicó que el número de aprehensiones podría aumentar en los meses de marzo, abril y mayo.

Explicó que las buenas condiciones climáticas que se registran en esos meses hacen más fácil la travesía de los migrantes hacia Estados Unidos.

That figure, which exceeds by 45 percent the arrests of last February, rises to 189 thousand 584 family units apprehended in the first six months of fiscal year 2019, which began on October 1, and is greater than 182 thousand 834 of the previous 24 months.

In presenting the report of migrant arrests last February, the acting director of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Kevin McAleenan, indicated that the number of arrests could increase in the months of March, April and May.

He explained that the good weather conditions recorded in those months make it easier for migrants to travel to the United States.
