Funcionarios del zoológico Audubon dicen que otro animal murió después del ataque del sábado por un jaguar que  escapapo, Valerio.

«Estamos tristes de anunciar que Rusty, nuestro zorro que estaba siendo tratado por veterinarios después del ataque de nuestro jaguar macho, se volvió crítico la noche pasada y pese a los mejores esfuerzos, falleció esta mañana», dijo la portavoz Katie Smith en un correo electrónico.

Este es el noveno animal que muere a causa de las lesiones infligidas por el jaguar que escapapo.

En todo; cinco alpacas, tres zorros y un emú murieron.

No hubo heridos humanos

«La gran cantidad de apoyo de la comunidad está ayudando a nuestro personal a atravesar este tiempo devastador, especialmente a aquellos que cuidan a nuestros animales. Se ha iniciado un monumento conmemorativo en el frente del zoológico por parte de miembros de la comunidad».

A medida que la investigación continúa, los funcionarios de Audubon dicen que están viendo un problema con el techo en el hábitat de Valerio.

«Parece que el techo del hábitat se vio comprometido».

El jaguar de tres años se tranquilizó menos de una hora después de que se descubriera que había escapado. Zoo personal le disparó con un dardo.

El zoológico volvió a abrir el domingo, pero la exhibición del jaguar permaneció cerrada.

Las autoridades de Audubon dicen que Valerio, el jaguar de tres años, no será eutunado.

Officials at the Audubon Zoo say another animal has died following Saturday’s attack by an escaped jaguar, Valerio.

«We are sad to announce that Rusty, our fox who was being treated by veterinarians following the attack by our male jaguar, became critical last evening and despite best efforts, passed away this morning,» spokeswoman Katie Smith said in an email.

This is the 9th animal to die from injuries the escaped jaguar inflicted.

In all; five alpaca, three foxes and an emu died.

There were no human injuries

«The outpouring of community support is helping our staff through this devastating time, especially those who care for our animals. A memorial has been started in the front of the Zoo by caring members of the community.»

As the investigation continues, Audubon officials say they are looking at a problem with the roof in Valerio’s habitat.

«It appears the roof of the habitat was compromised.»

The three-year-old jaguar was tranquilized less than an hour after the escape was discovered he had escaped.  Zoo personal shot him with a dart.

The zoo reopened Sunday, but the jaguar exhibit remained closed.

Audubon officials say Valerio, the three-year-old jaguar, will not be euthanasia.
