El Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas aprobó el viernes por unanimidad una nueva remesa de duras sanciones contra Pyongyang, en respuesta a un nuevo lanzamiento de un misil balístico que según el gobierno norcoreano puede llegar a cualquier punto del territorio estadounidense. La resolución fue presentada por Estados Unidos y negociada con China, el aliado más cercano de Corea del Norte.

“Definimos esta ‘resolución de sanciones’ amañada por los Estados Unidos y sus seguidores como una grave infracción de la soberanía de nuestra república, como un acto de guerra que viola la paz y la estabilidad en la Península de Corea y la región y rechazamos de forma tajante la ‘resolución’”, indicó en un comunicado el Ministerio norcoreano de Exteriores.

Las medidas equivalen a un “bloqueo económico completo” de Corea del Norte, afirmó el Ministerio.

“Si los Estados Unidos desean vivir con seguridad, deben abandonar su política hostil hacia la RPDC y aprender a coexistir con un país que tiene armas nucleares y deben despertar de su sueño imposible de que nuestro país renuncie a las armas nucleares, que hemos desarrollado y completado superando toda clase de penurias”, indicó el comunicado, difundido por la agencia oficial de noticias norcoreana.

RPDC son las siglas de República Popular Democrática de Corea, el nombre oficial de Corea del Norte.

La resolución aprobada por el Consejo de Seguridad reduce de forma drástica los límites a las importaciones de petróleo refinado en Corea del Norte, exige el regreso a su país de todos los norcoreanos que trabajan en el extranjero en un plazo de 24 meses e incluye una operación contra el contrabando por mar de productos prohibidos como carbón y petróleo hacia y desde territorio norcoreano.

El éxito del gobierno de Trump para aprobar el texto fue elogiado por el demócrata de mayor rango en el Comité de Relaciones Exteriores del Senado, Ben Cardin, de Maryland.

Sin embargo, las sanciones no incluyen las medidas más duras que quería el gobierno de Donald Trump, que habrían prohibido todas las importaciones de crudo, y congelado los activos internacionales del gobierno norcoreano y su líder, Kim Jong Un.
