Suicide bombing in Nigeria leaves 50 dead

A suspected member of Boko Haram blew himself up amidst several worshipers praying at a mosque in the city of Mubi
At least 50 people died on Tuesday in a suicide bombing in Mubi, a city in northeastern Nigeria, the focus of the insurgency of the jihadist group Boko Haram for eight years, according to a police report.
«At the moment we have at least 50 people dead» and several wounded after a suicide attack on a Mubi mosque during morning prayer, said Adamawa State Police spokesman Othman Abubakar.
The kamikaze «mixed with the faithful» to enter the mosque and «activated its explosives» during the prayers, the source said.
The wounded, whose number was not specified, were transferred to hospitals in the area.
The attack has not yet been claimed but it bears the imprint of Boko Haram, who usually commits attacks against villages and suicide attacks in the area.
The insurgency of the jihadist group of the last eight years has left at least 20 thousand dead and 2.6 million displaced in the northeast of Nigeria.
The State of Adamawa, very affected by the violence at the height of the insurrection in 2014-2015, registered a progressive and fragile return to calm compared to the neighboring state of Borno, the epicenter of the conflict.

But the jihadist attacks resumed in recent weeks in this border region of Cameroon and close to the Mandara mountains, where Boko Haram has several camps.
