El presidente ruso, Vladímir Putin, entró hoy en plena campaña para lograr la victoria del «sí» en el plebiscito constitucional del próximo 1 de julio, del que depende su permanencia en el poder después de 2024.

Las medidas adoptadas al comienzo de la pandemia del coronavirus permitieron «salvar decenas de miles de vidas», aseguró Putin en un discurso televisado a la nación.

En un claro acto de corte electoral, Putin hizo una encendida defensa de la gestión ante la COVID-19 e intentó ahuyentar los temores a un contagio durante la votación, que se celebrará cuando aún están prohibidos los actos públicos en gran parte del país y algunas regiones aún no han logrado superar el pico de la epidemia.
«La epidemia aún no ha terminado, aún tendremos que aplastar y rematar esta plaga, pero la vida sigue y vuelve a su cauce natural y a la normalidad», subrayó.
Y es que el principal rival de la reforma constitucional es precisamente el coronavirus y el descontento popular provocado por el aumento del paro, la caída del poder adquisitivo y el confinamiento.

El Tribunal Constitucional se negó esta semana a tramitar una tercera demanda interpuesta contra Putin por su decisión de convocar el plebiscito cuando Rusia aún no ha superado la amenaza de la COVID-19, lo que los demandantes consideran un «crimen».
«No fue fácil para nadie. Pero desde el principio de la epidemia hicimos una elección, decidimos que en primer plano debe estar el hombre, su vida, su salud y su bienestar. Que lo importante es salvar a la gente y lo demás ya se arreglará», subrayó el jefe de Estado.
