«There are about a thousand people hospitalized in the region by COVID, or pending tests, and a couple of weeks ago, we were projecting that number at 3,000,» Dr. Kanter said. «Right now, in the larger regions of New Orleans, there are 186 individuals with COVID or with a pending test who are on fans. This time two weeks ago, we were projecting that number in a thousand.»Dr. Kanter said that instead of hospitals being full of patients, they have largely managed to find space for most patients. Even the «emergency hospital» established at the Morial Convention Center has hosted far fewer patients than anticipated.
«If you look at the Morial Convention Center, which is a regional asset, there are a little more than a hundred patients there right now and we’ve explored it to thousands,» Dr. Kanter said. «That’s incredible news.» What’s not amazing, he says, are signs that more people are starting to venture into more than just essential errands. Dr. Kanter said a recent change in the emergency room proved it.

«We were seeing the old traumas and accidents we hadn’t seen in a long time,» he said. «And it was worrying because it was indicative that people are outside, diving on the roads, leaving their home and we don’t want to see that happen.»
