Luego de recibir la petición por parte de la defensa de Juan Antonio «Tony» Hernández, el juez Kevin Castel decidió postergar la audiencia 30 días y determinó que la audiencia para fijar la sentencia se realizará el 24 de febrero de 2020.
Según información obtenida por Pro Honduras Network, el argumento para reprogramar la sentencia se basa en supuestos documentos “cruciales” que la defensa considera relevantes, para que el juez tome en consideración antes de emitir la sentencia que enfrentará Tony.
Los abogados aseguran que los documentos los obtendrán en las instituciones hondureñas, mismas instituciones que durante el juicio colaboraron de manera ineficiente para brindar información sobre las cuentas y otros elementos importantes para complementar las investigaciones de la fiscalía.
El cambio de fecha para la sentencia, no modifica el hecho de que Tony Hernández fue encontrado culpable de los cuatro cargos mediante un juicio, lo único que pueden lograr los abogados por medio de la presentación de nuevos documentos, es solicitar clemencia por el acusado presentando cartas de familiares, políticos, pastores entre otros documentos como estados de cuentas bancarias para intentar disminuir la condena, el juez es quien tendrá en sus manos la decisión de la pena por cada cargo.

The lawyers assure that the documents will be obtained in the Honduran institutions, the same institutions that during the trial inefficiently collaborated to provide information on the accounts and other important elements to complement the prosecutor’s investigations.
The change of date for the sentence does not modify the fact that Tony Hernández was found guilty of the four charges through a trial, the only thing that lawyers can achieve through the presentation of new documents, is to request clemency by the accused presenting Letters from relatives, politicians, pastors and other documents such as bank account statements to try to reduce the sentence, the judge is the one who will have in his hands the decision of the penalty for each charge.
