La mayoría de los migrantes indocumentados que reside en Estados Unidos llegaron al país de manera legal a través de sus fronteras, según un informe del «Center for Migration Studies» (CMS) difundido hoy.

El estudio sostiene que el 62% de las personas que residen en EU de manera irregular cruzaron la frontera de manera legal, tras conseguir visados, y posteriormente no lo abandonaron.

El otro 38% de los indocumentados entraron en el país ilegalmente.

En este sentido, el estudio precisa que el número de personas que cruzaron irregularmente las fronteras se ha reducido por séptimo año consecutivo.

«La llegada por vía aérea y la caducidad de las visas temporales han sido la principal forma de ingreso de la población indocumentada en los siete años cubiertos por este informe», asegura este centro para estudios sobre migración, con sede en Nueva York.

CMS denuncia que mientras el presidente de EU, Donald Trump, «ha centrado la atención de la nación en el muro fronterizo» con México, el número de indocumentados de nacionales mexicanos en Estados Unidos se redujo entre 2016 y 2017 en 400 mil personas.
Asimismo, insistió en que en 2017, por primera vez, los mexicanos representaron menos de la mitad del total de indocumentados, cuyo número supera los diez millones y medio.Los datos del CMS apuntan a que el número actual de mexicanos en situación irregular en EU es de cinco millones 290 mil frente a los seis millones 600 mil que había en 2010.
Desde 2010, el número total de migrantes indocumentados disminuyó en 1.3 millones, de los 11 millones 725 mil a los 10 millones 665 mil que se calcula residían en el país en 2017.

El estudio desvelado por el centro también destaca en contrapartida el aumento de indocumentados venezolanos, de 60 mil en 2013 a 145 mil en 2017.
